Flora i Fauna representades a l’Hospital Modernista

The existence of representations of plants and animals in the Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau is well known, and there is always some reference to them when talking about this modernist complex, the main work of Lluís Domènech i Montaner. However, never before has a specific study been published dedicated to these representations: which flowers and plants appear there, which animals can be identified, or the symbolic meanings they hide.

This book shows, for the first time, the plants and animals with which Domènech adorns the complex, declared a World Heritage Site, identified and ordered. With an interdisciplinary approach, it offers a new symbolic reading of the old modernist hospital, establishing the links between ornamental art, botany, zoology, history, and even mythology.
